How to Hunt Coyote on Someone Elses Property

Hunting on public land is an option, but there are a number of guidelines you need to be aware of before you do. Finding a private hunting spot is well worth the effort. This article will give you a little guidance on how to do this.

The first thing you want to do is get in and try to find some property to hunt on.

One of the best parts of coyote hunting is the fact that you can find new and different pieces of land to explore and hunt on.

I have quite a few landowners who allow me to hunt on their property – for coyotes only. I am not allowed to even set foot on their property to hunt anything else like deer or turkey.

The truth is that I didn’t really even know these property owners before I just went up and asked them if I could hunt coyotes on their land. I just did a little research on who owns the land, and whereabouts they lived – and just kind of went by that.

Honestly, I really just went door knocking and asked them if I could hunt coyotes on their land. I can tell you that no one has ever been rude to me. Even if they said no, they were still friendly.

I am not going to tell you that every person you ask will say “yes, you’re welcome to come and hunt”, I’ve been turned down several times.

The truth is that the property owners are always very interested in how you do the coyote hunting, and the gear you use – even when they say no. The trick is to make sure you are always friendly and polite, and they will usually respond in the same way.

So really the easiest way is just to go door to door and knock on each property owner’s door. Tell them that you’ve been seeing some coyotes crossing the road in front of their place and you know, explain to them what you want to do..

Most of these people are going to be very open to letting you come onto their property and help them out with these coyote – because they are a nuisance.

Getting Written Permission to Hunt on an Owners’ Land

Before you go, you want to have a prepared sheet of paper that basically states that the land owner is giving you permission to hunt on their land. The document simply has multiple sections where the land owners can fill out and sign their name to say that they have given you permission to hunt on particular dates.

To make this a little simpler, I have created a downloadable template you can access by signing up below. You will be redirected to the document once you sign up. Just print it out and fill it out with the land owner:

Just make sure that you get the land owner to sign and write down the date or date range they are agreeing to allow you to hunt on their land.

Once you have written permission, you need to keep this with you at all times when hunting. That’s so if a game warden or cop or any other authority were to stop you while on the property, you can pull out this little sheet of paper and show that you have the right to be hunting coyotes on the land and that everything is 100% legal and you should be good to go from there.

And really once you get a couple pieces of property established that you can go and hunt, really, only thing that’s left is to actually get your equipment together to go and get out there in the woods and start calling.
