ICOtec Night Stalker Review

New From ICOtec – The ICOtec Night Stalker Review

In recent years, there has been a rapid increase in the number of predators. Consequently, there is a significant decline in the number of animals they prey on, such as deer, hens, and rabbits. What’s worse is that predators such as coyotes, wolves and wild cats are now blood-hungry and showing up in human settlements as well.

Owing to these circumstances (and personal hobbies), there is an increasing demand for predator hunters. However, as essential as their job is, it is also extremely risky. Exposure to infections, venomous snakes, smugglers, and obviously, the predators themselves are just a few examples. If you’re a predator hunter, then you know what we are talking about.

Predator Hunting Essentials

While a great shotgun or rifle can be an important asset, it isn’t the only thing that hunters need when they are on the field.

For instance, most of the hunting happens at night because that’s when the predators are awake and looking for their prey. So hunting equipment has to be equally efficient both during the day and at night.

Furthermore, to lure the animals to a certain spot, hunters fake the calls of different animals that the predators usually feed on. Therefore, mastering these calls is also as important as a shotgun. Otherwise, the hunter might just invite the predator to feast on them.

Considering all of the above, what if we told you that there is a way to make your job easier? Or perhaps, “safer”?

ICOtec Night Stalker — The Ultimate Predator Hunting Solution

Recently, ICOtec launched an awesome product called the Night Stalker Programmable Call, which could be the answer to every hunter’s prayer. It covers all of the requirements we discussed above, and much much more.

This product was designed exclusively by professionals, which means it’s safe to say that it is of exceptional quality. It may cost a month’s rent, but it is definitely a lasting investment because of its durability.

Nonetheless, it is still known for being more affordable than most hunting equipment. Its price usually ranges between $300 to $400.

The Night Stalker comes with a handle that makes carrying it around easier. The user can mount it on a tripod if necessary. Meanwhile, the speaker sits on two legs, so the sound waves are released up into the air. This prevents the ground from absorbing most of the sound waves.

On its side, the device has four ports. The first port is for the external speaker. The second one is to sync any programming done to the caller with the remote. The third port is for attaching a decoy to the caller. Finally, it has a fourth USB port with two internal storage compartments.

In addition, the power switch is on the side, so there is no need to worry about accidentally turning it off.

The Night Stalker has 240 different sounds, and each and every one of them is of excellent quality. To be precise, it comes with a 10-watt mega speaker. It includes the different sounds of rabbits, pigs, dogs, coyotes, woodpeckers, blackbirds, mockingbirds, and so many others as well.

Even the variations within the sounds of the animals are impressive. For instance, the sound of a coyote can be that of a female, a lonely male, an angry male or even the coyote’s howl. We can also add sounds to its memory. In fact, it can store up to 500 sounds.

Moreover, the Night Stalker has a unique 300-yard non-line-of-sight remote range and a durable 360° antenna. Non-line-of-sight (NLOS) refers to radio transmissions whose path is not hindered by physical objects. This means dense trees or such barriers won’t affect the quality of the sound.

So, even if we place the Night Stalker on a tree, with a couple of trees on either side, the predator will still hear the calls very clearly. Since most hunting takes place in the jungles, we thought this feature was very clever.

Yes, we said ON A TREE. This device is built in such a way that its handle provides a strong grip and can even be hung on the branches of a tree. This way, we won’t have to worry about carrying it around in case of emergency. We can also place it somewhere far from where we want to position ourselves.

However, even if there aren’t any trees around, we can still use it. The Night Stalker comes with a tripod stand, which we can mount and place on any solid ground.

Now, let’s analyze its awesome features in detail.

Key Features

Having 240 different sounds such as chatter, screams, and cries of various animals isn’t the Night Stalker’s only cool feature. 50 of these sounds were designed by the world-class predator hunter, Tony Tebbe. Tebbe’s expert predator calls have made his name popular in the predator hunting industry and around the world.

But that’s not all. The device has an option called “Fav 1” and “Fav 2,” which allows the user to add certain calls from the list into a Favorites list. This way, the user won’t have to go through a list of 240 sounds every time they want to play one.

What’s more, this device allows the user to “mix and match” as well. It has options to play two sounds at the same time and provides separate buttons to play and pause the two audios. This means that we can play the sound of one animal’s attack and another one’s screams simultaneously. Basically, we can stage a whole fight between two preys just using this one device. Isn’t that an awesome way of tricking the predator?

As we’ve already mentioned, the Night Stalker can hold up to 500 different sounds, giving the user a chance to add files based on the predator they are hunting. The supported file formats are .mp3 and .wav. It also has a library filled with free and unlimited sounds available for downloading.

The non-line-of-sight range is 300 yards, which is the equivalent of three football fields. Therefore, the hunter can stay at a safe distance away from the device and the predator.

Even the remote has several user-friendly features. For instance, the screen display has a day/night option. The hunter can also adjust the screen brightness to accommodate the circumstances.

The screen is big, and the options aren’t too tricky to figure out. The options available are menu, decoy, fav 1 and fav 2, play 1 and play 2, stop, the call keys, the volume keys and coax. Really simple, right?

The Night Stalker also has an extraordinary battery life. However, users don’t get the caller and the remote batteries along with the device. It is up to the consumer to purchase them if they choose to buy the product. Nonetheless, the caller uses a 10AA battery, and the remote uses a 4AA one.

Finally, the package comes with all the necessary cables and a strong, mountable tripod as well.

The Pros and Cons of The Night Stalker

The Night Stalker puts an end to the old-fashioned ways of having to memorize different calls for predators. With one click, the hunter can play any sound they want. Once you get used to the list on the screen, you won’t even have to take your eyes off the field as you navigate through the list of sounds.

The best part is that the quality of the sound is excellent and that obstacles such as trees won’t affect it.

Furthermore, the Night Stalker is an affordable device and is very easy to maneuver. It isn’t too heavy to carry around, which is a great benefit, especially in times of emergency or distress. It’s built in such a way that it can hang off a branch, so the hunter won’t have to worry about carrying the equipment as they move around the field.

While the cost-effectiveness of this product is definitely a plus, it isn’t the only reason why it’s so popular in the industry. We already mentioned how unique and user-friendly its features are.

The screen has options to increase/decrease brightness. This may seem unnecessary, but it will prove to be very useful when hunting in places like the desert. Quite often, a lot of hunters are lured into places where wild animals are free to reside.

The effectiveness and ease with which it can be handled are also strong reasons why hunters are becoming increasingly fond of this device.

Despite all the pros of this device, there are some cons as well. For example, the caller’s and remote’s batteries don’t come in the package.

Moreover, having a programmable caller doesn’t entirely eliminate the dangers of predator hunting. For example, sometimes the predators surprise the hunters from behind. No Night Stalker can fix this problem.

Why Buy The ICOtec Night Stalker

Clearly, the pros of the Night Stalker programmable call outweigh its cons. It’s an amazing device that can make life easier for all the predator hunters out there. It is not too expensive, you can purchase it online, and it’s also extremely user-friendly. It is definitely a device we would recommend to hunters of every age and qualification.

Our Final Thoughts

Predator hunters always live on the edge — they never know when animals or smugglers will attack them. So anything that can ease their task would be warmly welcomed.

One such device that we would recommend is ICOtec’s Night Stalker programmable call. With its countless calls ranging from rabbits to hyenas, it will undoubtedly become every hunter’s best friend.

There won’t be a need to imitate the calls of animals anymore, which can save multiple lives on the field. The hunter can focus their eyes on the field without concentrating on making the right kind of call because the Night Stalker will do that for them.

ICOtec Outlaw Review

For The Seasoned Hunter – ICOtec Outlaw Review

All aboard for the ICOtec Outlaw review!

I first got my hands on the ICOtec Outlaw game call a little over two months ago. I had heard good things about it from a few of my hunter friends and thought I’d pick one up to see how it holds up. It was just as I was planning to go on a hunting trip, so I had a great opportunity to try the Outlaw out.

And to be honest, the ICOtec Outlaw surprised me with just how effective it is. Not only did I catch more game with the Outlaw, but it also took away some of the needless trouble you have with some other calls.

I’ve always been a fan of ICOtec and their game calls, so I had high hopes for the Outlaw. And fortunately, the ICOtec Outlaw didn’t disappoint. Here’s my ICOtec Outlaw review, where I explain what the Outlaw has to offer, what I liked about it, what I didn’t like about it, and finally, whether I think it’s worth a buy.

ICOtec Outlaw Review – Features

The first thing I should go over in my ICOtec Outlaw review is the Outlaw’s features.

Unlike other units in the ICOtec family, the ICOtec Outlaw is outfitted with a decoy right out of the box. The decoy in question is the AD500 electronic decoy. This decoy has adjustable speed and is fitted with a feather and fur top. It also has an LED for nighttime hunting. It can be turned on and off and has a light-only function as well, for when you only need the LED to be on.

One of the things I noticed straight away with the ICOtec Outlaw was its size. It’s a bit bigger than most of the other calls I’ve seen in the ICOtec product line. However, the ICOtec Outlaw boasts a booming 10-watt speaker, which can get its sound across considerable distances. A special acoustic foam, which pads the inside of the unit, enhances the ICOtec Outlaw’s 10-watt speaker further.

But, its speaker wouldn’t be worth talking about if the Outlaw didn’t have plenty of high-quality call sounds to boot. And thankfully, ICOtec has included a very respectable 250 calls on the Outlaw, out of the box. These 250 calls include 50 call sounds from well-known hunter Tony Tebbe. With 250 calls, I have to say – I had everything I needed right from the get-go. But, if you want to add more, don’t worry. The ICOtec Outlaw has the capacity to store over 450 sound files.

One unique feature of the ICOtec Outlaw is that it can play two sounds at the same time. Honestly, I haven’t had an opportunity to use this feature yet, but if you can find a use for it, at least you have that feature.

A convenient thing about the ICOtec Outlaw is that it can play MP3 and WAV audio files. I don’t have to use any of those special, proprietary file formats I dread with most other calls. I have to say that I appreciate that very much.

ICOtec has added a unique feature that lets me play a “coax” on the Outlaw. The “coax” can be any sound I want it to be, paired with a regular call sound. Pressing the “Coax” button stops the call immediately and plays the sound I chose instead. That is very useful for stubborn game, and it’s one of my favorite things about the Outlaw.

And finally, I’m going to talk about the nitty-gritty a bit. The ICOtec Outlaw has a range of up to 300 yards, according to ICOtec. I haven’t had the chance to test it at 300 yards yet, but there’s no reason for me to believe it doesn’t work at that distance. I’ve so far tested it at 200+ yards, and it worked without a hitch.

Of course, I don’t have to have line-of-sight with the unit to be able to use the remote control. Thankfully, I haven’t had any problems with latency so far.

The ICOtec Outlaw is powered by 10 AA batteries, while the decoy and remote take four each. Sadly, the batteries aren’t included.

ICOtec Outlaw Review – Pros

Includes 250 high-quality call sounds

The most important part of any call is its sounds. Thankfully, ICOtec has included 250 high-quality calls with the Outlaw, out of the box. I’m very impressed with the ones I’ve had the opportunity to use so far. These are very realistic sounds, and the Outlaw has amazingly crisp audio. And honestly, with how many call sounds ICOtec has put on the Outlaw, I haven’t felt the need to add any of my own yet, except of course for the purposes of writing this review.

Capacity to store over 450 sound files

Let’s face it, that’s more than any of us will ever need, but it’s still a very nice touch on ICOtec’s part. At the very least, you won’t have to worry about running out of room for your sounds.

Powerful, 10-watt speaker

There isn’t much for me to say about the ICOtec Outlaw’s speaker, except that it’s loud. It’s very loud. And, I’m not sure how much the acoustic foam inside helps propagate the sound, but whatever it is, it’s fantastic. I have to say – I’ve had similar experiences with other calls made by ICOtec. It seems that ICOtec has a knack for designing calls with powerful, booming speaker systems.

Plays MP3 and WAV audio files

I’m sorry, but those proprietary file formats other calls use are a hassle to me. I appreciate ICOtec designing the Outlaw so that I can use MP3 and WAV audio files with it. That is one of those small, but meaningful features other call manufacturers seem to forget about.

Ergonomic remote control

I have to say that that the ICOtec Outlaw’s remote control has left me very satisfied. It’s very easy to grip, it has a big, crisp display and the buttons are easy for me to press without having to look at the remote. The layout of the buttons is also very straightforward, logical and easy to memorize.

Let’s face it, when it’s dark out, there’s no chance any of us will be able to read those labels. And while we’re on the subject, the screen also has a backlit function, so it’s very readable at night too.

Long battery life

I’ve noticed this with other units in the ICOtec family that I’ve used. ICOtec products generally have a very good battery life. And, the ICOtec Outlaw hasn’t disappointed me yet with its battery life. Of course, I always recommend to anyone that they use good-quality batteries to get the most out of the Outlaw.

Provided that you use good-quality batteries with it, the Outlaw won’t fail you. Personally, I’ve had the Outlaw with me from 7 in the morning until it was dark on a few trips and it hasn’t died on me yet.

ICOtec Outlaw Review – Cons

Build quality could stand to be a bit better

It’s not that the ICOtec Outlaw feels like it could fall apart at any moment, but its build quality could stand to be a bit better. It has kind of a cheap, plastic look and feel to it that turns me off. Thankfully, the Outlaw is plenty durable itself. If you’re not throwing it from a third-floor balcony, it should be able to withstand all of the expected wear and tear.

Looks-wise, the Outlaw won’t impress anyone anytime soon. That can be a turnoff for people. But, if you’re like me and you value functionality over looks, then it shouldn’t be much of a problem.

Decoy is a little noisy

The AD500 electronic decoy that’s fitted on the Outlaw is a little noisy. It’s not an awful decoy or anything, but I’ve used better. Then again, there’s nothing stopping you from using a decoy of your choice alongside the Outlaw. But, since the AD500 decoy is part of what you’re buying, I feel it’s only fair to mention it.

Price could be a turnoff

One thing I should mention about the ICOtec Outlaw is that it isn’t the cheapest call in ICOtec’s product line. It’s definitely one of their best that I’ve used so far, if not the best. But, it’s not the cheapest. That may or may not be a turnoff for you.

If you’re thinking about buying a cheaper ICOtec call over the Outlaw, then I can’t exactly say you shouldn’t. In my experience, even ICOtec’s cheaper calls are perfectly usable. However, with the Outlaw, you get a greater variety and number of call sounds, right out of the box. Not to mention that you can store close to 500 sounds internally if you want to.

Is the ICOtec Outlaw worth a buy?

To be honest, I was impressed with the ICOtec Outlaw the very first day I got it. It’s one of those products that does exactly what it’s meant to do and exactly what it’s advertised to do.

I’ve always been an ICOtec fan, so as you can imagine, I had high hopes for the Outlaw. Thankfully, the ICOtec Outlaw didn’t disappoint. Aside from the decoy being a little noisy and the slightly cheap look and feel of it, the Outlaw is an incredibly effective call.

It’s not the cheapest call in ICOtec’s product line, and that may turn you off. But, in my opinion, the ICOtec Outlaw’s price is well-warranted. After all, you get 250 of ICOtec’s best-quality call sounds, right out of the box. With the Outlaw, you also have a powerful 10-watt speaker, a killer range of up to 300 yards and a great battery life to boot.

As I said, the ICOtec Outlaw more or less does what it’s meant to do. If you can get past a few minor drawbacks, like the less-than-stellar build quality and decoy bundled with it, the Outlaw is a very functional and good call.

Assuming you have a little more money to burn, it may be worth getting an Outlaw over a cheaper ICOtec or another game call, if just for its wide variety of call sounds, powerful speaker and wide range. It’s one of those products that won’t disappoint you and may even surprise you with how effective it is. I can definitely say that the ICOtec Outlaw has improved my hunting experience.

ICOtec Outlaw Review – Final thoughts

If you’re in the market for a great game call, with a wide variety of call sounds included, a powerful speaker, a killer range and otherwise all-around good remote, decoy and build quality, then the ICOtec Outlaw may be the one for you. I recommend it to any hunter who’s looking for a consistent, well-made, feature-full, but not too pricey call.

Hopefully, my ICOtec Outlaw review has helped you make up your mind if you were on the fence about buying this call. If you don’t think this call is for you I have put together reviews of all of the best coyote calls on the market.

ICOtec GC101XL Review

Best Cheap Coyote Call – ICOtec GC101XL Review

Here Goes my ICOtec GC101XL Review!

There are so many types of coyote call systems and devices that it’s simply impossible to choose one right away. And choosing is especially hard for beginners, or perhaps those who have to deal with predators for the first time now.

The best advice I can give to the new folk is to read up on the different types of coyote calls and the situations they fit best. Then they can figure out what they actually need. After that, it’s important to read the product reviews and see if it’s any good and worth the money. Then it’s fine to proceed to buy the product that has the quality and fits the needs.

Another piece of advice, before I get into the ICOtec GC101XL review, is not to base a buying decision around the price of the product. I’m saying this because the product prices don’t reflect how a product might work for one user’s particular situation. For example, there’s no need to buy a multiple speaker, electronic programmable unit for a single coyote just once. There’s no need to invest that much money!

Instead, one can buy something much simpler and not waste a lot of money. In this example, a person would only need a single speaker, mouth-blown coyote call.

Yet another example for this is the particular product that I’m reviewing in this article – ICOtec GC101XL coyote call. Its amazingly low price made me skeptical at first, I have to admit. However, when I tried it, I was pleasantly surprised. So, my advice is to check the specifications and reviews first, and not the price.

Now that I got that out of the way, I want to go to my ICOtec GC101XL review. This ICOtec model is one of the cheapest and most popular coyote calls on the market right now. I bought it, tested it, and now I’m ready to share my thoughts with fellow coyote hunters. Hope the readers find this review useful.

The first thing that shocked me the most is this product’s price. I got it for $49.99 off Amazon. I also checked its price on other websites. It goes for $49.99 most of the time, but I occasionally ran into higher prices. The highest I saw it go was $67, which is still pretty decent for this great product, I’ll have to admit.

When I opened the package, I noticed right away how incredibly light the device is. It weighs only 0.75 pounds. Thanks to this feature, I was able to carry it in my pocket, which is really convenient. There’s also a strap to attach it to the belt. If I had a belt, I’m sure that would have been useful to me. I’m sure it would be for other people, too.

I liked the fact that it uses just plain 4 AA batteries. I was worried that it might require some other type of batteries that are incredibly hard to find since this has happened to me a couple of times.

After turning it on, I noticed right away that the sound was incredibly loud. I was amazed, honestly. Such a tiny and simple looking device, yet such a powerful sound.

I was really fond of the 12 animal call features that it has. It can also play 2 sounds simultaneously. It’s even more effective that way, I think.

The device itself is, as I said, simple-looking. Don’t get me wrong – that is a good thing! There’s no need for instructions, basically. I just pressed the button, and it worked. I like that a lot, actually.

All the animal calls are of very good quality. I really did not expect such a simple and cheap device to have any quality in it, but it certainly did.

Without a doubt, ICOtec is one of the best coyote call manufacturers out there. A couple of their coyote call products are top-sellers. I personally like them, too.

After browsing through some ‘top 10′ coyote call products’ lists, I noticed that ICOtec’s products are the most prominently featured ones everywhere.

User reviews are what speaks the most about this product. Although I was looking for them, I didn’t find many bad reviews, to be honest.

So, that was my overall ICOtec GC101XL review. Next, I’ll list some of the product’s most important features.

Key Features

As I already mentioned before, ICOtec GC101XL is quite lightweight, weighing only 0.75 pounds. It’s also very small, being that its dimensions are 4 x 2 x 4 inches. The material that this product is made out of is very tough and durable, as well. Also, there’s a one-year warranty for it.

This coyote call device comes with a remote control that has the 12 animal call options, as well as volume control buttons. It’s quite easy to manipulate, even for beginners.

The speaker itself requires 4 AA batteries, whereas the remote requires a single 23 A battery. Many of the reviews I read said that the batteries lasted really long in this thing.

A handy little feature that the speaker has is a place to put the remote in, so it’s hard to misplace it. This feature is particularly great for those like me, who always lose things.

As I said, the speaker is incredibly loud. It puts out 5 watts, which is quite enough to do the job. The website says that its range is 100 yards. I think, realistically, it’s about 50 yards at most. The reviews say so, as well. However, 50 yards is fine. Long story short – it will get the job done anyway.

ICOtec GC101XL has 12 animal call options – female and male coyote, coyote howls, coyote pup distress, crow baby distress, jackrabbit distress, woodpecker distress, mouse voles, cottontail distress, red/grey fox distress, and fawn distress. There’s also an option to select two to play at the same time. All these sounds were licensed by Wildlife Technologies, which is the leading company in bioacoustics.

According to the website, this product is ideal for bow hunters. And, it works especially well with coyotes, foxes, wolves, bears, and crows. But, I suppose it works okay with other types of predators, too.

The material that this product is made out of is very tough and durable, as well.

1.   Convenient

It’s small and lightweight, and it has a great design. It can be carried around easily. The remote holder makes sure it doesn’t get misplaced.

2.   Durable

It’s made out of durable materials, and its design makes it resistant to certain damages. The batteries last long in it, too.

3.   Easy to Navigate

It’s great for beginners. There’s no need for any previous knowledge or an instructions manual. The remote control buttons have sound names written on them, which is basically all I need to know.

4.   Effective

It has a decent 100-yard range. The 12 options are more than enough to attract almost any time of animal or vermin. Again, while reading through the reviews, I noticed most of them say it worked instantly. One ICOtec GC101XL review from Amazon said ‘The first time I used this call, I shot a coyote within 20 mins. Coyote literally ran straight at the call.’ And according to some users, the ‘2 sounds simultaneously’ option worked especially well for them.

5.   Cheap

It goes for around $50. But, as I said, it’s worth much more than that.

1.   Jackrabbit option doesn’t work as well

I didn’t notice this myself. I came across a couple of user reviews that say the ‘jackrabbit’ option lacks a bit.

2.   Only one-year warranty

Again, I don’t personally mind this, but here it is. Some users said that they would like the factory warranty to be longer. In my opinion, I don’t think this is a notable issue considering the product is quite durable and not likely to break.

Why Buy the ICOtec GC101XL

I’m going to get straight to the point – ICOtec GC101XL is a great product. And not just that – its price is surprisingly low when compared to other similar products.

It basically has all that a beginner hunter might need. It’s easy to use, and it actually works, which is more than I can say for some other coyote call devices I ordered.

One ICOtec GC101XL review said that it’s a mediocre product, meaning that it does satisfy the primary needs and that’s it. But, I can see that coming from an experienced hunter who is used to more complex animal calling systems. This product is more on the simple side, which is why I said that it’s great for beginners. It’s also useful to those who need a calling system only occasionally.

The bottom line is – it’s a decent product considering its price, and it has everything a beginner might need.

Final Thoughts

All throughout this ICOtec GC101XL review, I’ve rambled on and on about how great this product is. Is it really that amazing, one might ask. Well, yes it is, actually. I really have nothing bad to say about it. Other users who reviewed it didn’t seem to dislike it either.

Personally, I liked the fact that it’s light and simple. For me, it worked perfectly from the moment I took it out of the box. I already had the batteries, so I just shoved it into my pocket and went outside. I didn’t have to sit down and read the instructions thoroughly since there weren’t any. And, I didn’t need to, honestly. It was that simple.

And, I’m sure a beginner hunter would find it as easy to work with as I did.

Long story short, I really liked the product. I got my money’s worth and even more. What’s not to love?

Anyway, I hope this ICOtec GC101XL review was in any way useful. I know I would have appreciated it back when I was a beginner hunter.

My ICOtec GC350 Review

Intermediate Starter Package – My ICOtec GC350 Review

Here Goes My ICOtec GC350 Review

During my long hunting career, I have used many different game calls and, I can tell you already, it’s certainly not easy to choose the right one. Some of these “babies” were very expensive, and all I got was an utter disappointment. There were times when I thought that I would be better off without using any game call whatsoever. You can only imagine how bad it feels when you conduct your own research and when you invest some real money… only to end up with a faulty product as the end result.

Getting the right game call can be a truly demanding task. It’s much more difficult than you think. Not only do you need to be familiar with the topic,  but you also need to prioritize your own needs as well. And, of course, your budget is equally important too.

Having that in mind, you can look up the most expensive offers on the internet, but there’s no guarantee that you will find your dreamlike game call there. A common logic implies that the more you pay, the better product you will get. That’s not how it works in practice. In fact,  that’s how you will most likely end up with the same experience that I had when I was buying some game calls for myself.

You need to look for an optimal mix of price and value. You should aim for a game call that is able to deliver when it comes to both price and quality as well. In this case, you should look for a reachable price, on the one hand, and superb quality on the other. It may sound unrealistic at first, but such game calls do exist, trust me.

If you want an affordable game call with plenty of features and great functionality, you’ve come to a good place. The ICOtec GC350 is an ideal solution for both the more experienced hunters and the newcomers alike. It’s a game call that will easily revolutionize the way you think about hunting in general! At the same time, it’s also a game call that I am extremely proud of.

We could go on all day and night about why ICOtec GC350 is so amazing, but I will make sure to provide an in-depth explanation down below. Let’s get this show started!

ICOtec is a very recognizable brand in this market. When you see their name on the label, you know that you can expect only the best. They mastered the ability to create true user-friendly solutions that are easily accessible by any hunter. No matter if we talk about remote controls, decoys or (in our case) game calls, the conclusion is the same nonetheless. All of their products can be used by both beginners and the more experienced hunters as well. That is a trademark of their success and, I must add, also a legacy to their quality as well.

So far, I had a chance to test 3 of their game calls – GC300, GC350, and GC500. While there are some differences between these three products, the basic concepts are still the same. However, if I would have to choose my favorite, I would easily go for GC350. Why? Well, it combines the best aspects of GC300 and GC500. And, it also ensures that the catching of your prey is both effective and rewarding at the same time. You will feel like a master hunter with this game call in no time!

Before giving out more details on the key features, let’s see what this game call contains. The package includes the remote control (along with the 12-volt battery) and the unit itself. You will also need 4 AA batteries to make this game call operational but, sadly, they are not included with the product. You will have to get them on your own.

Now that we noted that, let’s examine the key features a little closer.

Key Features

The key features are the most important elements of each and every game call. That is where each product (in general) gets the chance to shine as well. When the features are limited and/or when there’s not a whole lot of them, you already have a good enough reason to be cautious.

I have tested ICOtec GC350 pretty extensively, and this is what I can comment on the key features.

The Design

First and foremost, let’s talk about the design itself.  It’s one of the most important features that you should always look at before buying a particular product. And, I can assure you, ICOtec GC350 really nails it here. For the most part, I really like how ICOtec designs their products as a whole.

The design is very simple and straightforward. You can easily get the grasp of it very quickly, and you can also access any feature you like in a matter of seconds. That is exactly what we want. I had many game calls that were rather complex in their nature, and when you realize that you have to spend (maybe even) several hours just to figure out how to use them, the whole thing becomes pointless fairly quickly. Luckily for us, that is not the case here. ICOtec GC350 is very user-friendly, and you will learn how to cope with it pretty much instantly.

Along with that, you can easily carry this game call around as it is extremely lightweight. ICOtec GC350 weighs only 1.6 pounds and, as such, it’s a perfect addition to your hunting equipment. I can also say that the size is equally optimal as well. With the basic dimensions of 8x6x4 inches, you can rest assured that you will never encounter any issues while storing this guy inside your hunting backpack.

As I mentioned above, in order to make this unit operational, you will need 4 AA batteries. The sad thing, however, is that they are not included with the product. So, on top of paying for the actual product, you will need to get these batteries on your own as well. The good thing, however, is that the 12-volt battery that you need in order to use the remote is included with this game call. So, we do have a compensation there.

The Remote

The remote is one of the most crucial features here and, I can tell you already, it’s truly outstanding. If there was one thing that I disliked about some of my previously owned game calls, it was the remote. Not only were they vastly unresponsive, but they also had plenty of issues with both range and sight as well. This particular remote is nothing like that.

The operation range of this remote is 300 yards. From my own experience, that is more than enough. Not only does it give you the needed flexibility, but it also gives you just enough time to position yourself properly in order to effectively attract your prey. Electronic game calls, in general, also have an issue with the signal. This one, however, truly works like a charm from that aspect as well.

I also mentioned that the line of sight could also be a problem with some game calls. It is a very typical scenario for a hunter to struggle with. Many game calls require a certain line of sight before you get the chance to use them properly. Based on my experience, this particular remote doesn’t require any line of sight whatsoever. So, you can rest assured that your ICOtec GC350 will function perfectly regardless of the actual line of sight.

The Programmable Calls

This single feature is the highlight of ICOtec GC350. The first thing that you will notice when you look up the description is the label that says “24 programmable calls”. There is a good reason for that.

You can attract all kinds of different animals with these 24 high-quality calls. This game call can be used to attract animals like a crow, bobcat, woodpecker, owl, snow geese and even a wild turkey. And, if you’re really ambitious, you can also tackle the more dangerous beasts like bears, wolves and coyotes (among many others). Regardless of how big your prey is, you will have the right sound to attract it, that’s for sure.

One thing that I particularly like here is the ability to add and remove the calls based on your own preferences (and aspirations as well). You can easily delete the calls that you don’t need, and you can then get the proper ones by looking through the call library and choosing your favorite ones. Of course, you don’t have to pay anything for a service like that!

The Speakers

This is yet another feature that is often a “deal breaker” when we talk about all game calls in general. I am particularly picky here, and I always want my game call to have clean, high-quality sounds. I can proudly confess that ICOtec GC350 fulfilled all of my expectations here.

Not only can these speakers produce loud and powerful sounds, but they are also very realistic as well. That is very important here as inappropriate sounds may have a completely opposite outcome of what you’d normally expect. The speakers have a 15-watt capacity and they support.wav, mp3 and custom audio formats.

Another thing that I have to point out is that the speakers can even be “extended” as well. You can use the integrated auxiliary jack to make your speakers even more powerful. I tried that out personally, and I was blown away instantly! I can certainly recommend this addition as well.

The SD Card

We live in a world of computation, and we want all of our data to be safe and well protected. The best way to do that is to use the SD card. ICOtec GC350 comes with its own SD card support. You can use that SD card to store your files and to transfer them to your PC/laptop at any point. You can always get more SD cards if you want additional capacity as well.

From my own experience, you can store 20-25 animal calls from Wildlife Technologies on one typical SD card.

  • A great mix of price and value.
  • The design is simple and straightforward.
  • This game call has a pretty long range, and you don’t need to bother with any line of sight in order to use it properly.
  • It comes with 24 built-in high-quality animal calls. But, you can also add and/or remove any calls that you want as well.
  • The speakers are more than amazing. You can also extend their power by using the integrated auxiliary jack as well.

  • Even though they are great, the “default” speakers may not be responsive in certain occasions.
  • You need to get the unit batteries on your own.

Why Buy the ICOtec GC350?

The answer to this question is very simple. The ICOtec GC350 is an outstanding game call that is very affordable but also able to provide a truly outstanding quality as well. No matter if you’re a beginner or a seasoned veteran, this guy will suit you perfectly. For this price, you can hardly find a better offer. I tried many different electronic game calls and, I can honestly say, ICOtec GC350 is the one that tops them all easily.

Final Thoughts

Even though you can easily find cheaper game calls, I hope that you now understand just how important it is to get a cost-effective model. ICOtec GC350 isn’t the cheapest game call out there, but it’s still affordable enough. Even more importantly, it’s able to deliver a terrific quality for that price, and that’s exactly what you should look for.

As one of those more experienced hunters, I can certainly recommend ICOtec GC350 from the bottom of my heart. Not only will you get an amazing and flexible game call,  but you will also get a very durable game call that you’ll be able to use for many, many years.

The ICOtec GC320 Review

Everything You Need – The ICOtec GC320 Review

Here Goes my Full ICOtec GC320 Review!

The ICOtec GC320 is an electronic predator game call and decoy combo. It features all the options and capabilities a hunter could ever need to lure in their prey. It can call coyotes, bobcats, foxes, crows, and many other animals with ease. That means you can now get rid of vermin and dangerous animals easier than ever before!

In this review, we will be taking a look at the most important aspects of this product. First, we will look at the Key Features in detail. Then we will go over a list of the pros and cons. Finally, we will offer a few important reasons why you might like to buy the ICOtec GC320, before concluding.

With all that in mind, let us get started with the Key Features.

Key Features

Before settling on buying any product, it is vital for you to know what it can do. To that end, in this section, we are going to look at the capabilities of the ICOtec GC320. These include the number and type of calls, the remote control abilities, the PD400 decoy, as well as other features.

24 Call Types – The ICOtec GC320 boasts as many as 24 different call types. They range from coyote and bobcat calls to crow and fox calls. These are pre-loaded, and they were specially designed to be indistinguishable from calls the animals make themselves

On top of that, the GC320 delivers two even more impressive features. Firstly, it allows you to play two separate calls at once. That is a very valuable option to have for several reasons. You can attract two types of predator at once, but you can also use the second call to make the primary call sound more natural. That way, you are more likely to attract the animals you are interested in.

Secondly, the GC320 also features an auxiliary audio jack. The jack allows you to connect external speakers to the device. This is useful for people who need extreme volumes, so the animals hear the calls throughout the property. Still, users have noted that the range of the device on its own is very impressive. The call is audible more than 500 yards away. However, if you need more volume for your property, the GC320 has you covered as well.

The PD400 Decoy – The other main feature of the ICOtec GC320 is the PD400 Decoy that comes with it. This device is attached to the main body of the GC320, and it bolsters the attractive capabilities of the system.

The PD400 is essentially a decoy that moves around automatically. You can change the type of decoy you place at the top of the device depending on the animal you are interested in. Furthermore, LED lights illuminate the decoy, so that the animals will be able to see it in the dark.

Looks are not everything, however. The decoy has to feel natural so that the animal will be drawn in. We do that by having the decoy move around in a believable way. The PD400 has taken this principle and improved upon it significantly. It offers a few movement modes, at the direction of the hunter.

You can control the speed at which the decoy moves, as well as the type of movement. The device even allows you to control the movement dynamically by remote. One particularly useful feature is the intermittent movement option. This instructs the device to move the decoy only seldom, at seemingly random intervals. That makes it more believable for the predator, as it mimics the natural behavior of its prey.

Remote control – One of the standout features of the GC320 is its remote control. It allows you to control almost all of the options available on the device at a safe distance. That way, you can stay well hidden, and wait for your opportunity to strike.

The remote has an effective range of around 300 yards, which is very impressive on its own. However, there is another factor that makes the remote even more useful. Namely, it doesn’t require an uninterrupted line of sight to operate. You can place your remote control safely inside an enclosed space, and it will still work fine.

The remote is a vital tool in the hunter’s arsenal. It allows you to control the GC320 in real time, making decisions as to how to best attract your prey. By using binoculars in conjunction with the remote, you can make the process of luring your animal much more efficient. You can even guide it into a preset trap by using the options on the PD400 Decoy. That means you can avoid having to fire a gun, but where’s the fun in that?

Warranty – The final Key Feature we should take a look at is the warranty that comes with the GC320 system. It is a 1-year factory warranty, which means your device is in good hands. The warranty covers the usual liabilities, animal-related damage, so you should be careful.

Pros and Cons

Now that we have seen the Key Features of the GC320, we need to put them into perspective. The responsible way to do that is to go through a list of pros and cons for the device. That way, the potential buyer can decide for themselves whether the product is worth it. With that in mind, let’s take a look at the pros first.

  • Complete Package: The GC320 comes pre-packed with everything you need to start exterminating vermin right away. It includes a predator call, a fully-controllable decoy, a remote control, and several decoy tops. The only thing you need to add is batteries!
  • Amazing sound capabilities: The predator call features 24 high-quality calls for different species. ICOtec designed these to cover all the calls you may need to get rid of unwanted intruders. The speaker that comes with the device is loud, and audible as far as 500 yards away. However, if you need even more volume, you can plug in external speakers as well.
  • Great remote control: The remote control that comes with the GC320 is arguably its most important feature. It allows you to stay hidden and out of danger while giving you full control of the device. Using the remote, you can switch sounds, increase or decrease the volume, as well as control the PD400 decoy.
  • PD400 Decoy: The PD400 decoy that is part of the package is an invaluable addition to the system. It has several modes of movement, which you can fully control remotely, and it can mimic the natural movement of prey. LED lights are also there to increase its drawing powers.
  • Sturdiness: Many users have independently noted how sturdy the GC320 is. People have reported that it withstood falling from heights, as well as animal attacks, and other extreme conditions. It came out virtually unscathed in every instance.

  • Can’t import sounds: The GC320 comes with 24 lifelike sounds, but some users would like to have the ability to add their own sounds to it. The device does not currently support this.
  • Non-standard batteries: Other users have pointed out that the batteries the GC320 uses can be hard to find in some environments. We advise you to see whether you can find these batteries in your area before making a purchase.
  • Sensitive remote: Users have also complained that the buttons on the remote are quite sensitive to wear and tear. They recommend not letting the buttons get into contact with anything if you can help it.

Why Buy The ICOtec GC320?

Having seen the Key Features and the Pros and Cons, we arrive at the central question of this review – why should you buy the GC320?

Naturally, the answer to that question depends on you and your needs. A great number of users have purchased this device to help them get rid of vermin on their properties. Most of the users are actually farmers who want to protect their crops and livestock.

The GC320 is particularly well-suited for use on a farm because of its range. Most users report that the call can be heard throughout their farm and that the remote covers most of the distance. The actual sounds the device features are also well-suited for farm use, especially in the United States. That is because it features coyote, bobcat, fox, and other sounds and calls.

However, that is not to say that it can’t be used for trophy hunting as well. If you want to hunt in a forest, you need to take some factors into account. Firstly, a forest is usually much bigger than a farm. That means you have to think strategically about where you want to place the device, and where you want to place yourself. Since hunters prefer using guns rather than traps, try setting the device up on a low point, and stake it out from a high point.

Secondly, the GC320 can play two different calls at once. This can be useful to a hunter if you are looking for both of those animals. However, you can also play the call for one animal to lure in another. It is that sort of flexibility, along with the remote control abilities of the device that makes the GC320 perfectly suited for trophy hunting as well, with a few adjustments.

Even though this device was designed with extermination in mind, that does not preclude more non-violent uses. This device is also perfect for nature enthusiasts who want to observe, rather than kill these predators. Again, the remote control abilities are perfect for this use. The remote control can allow the researcher to test out the response of an animal to a particular sort of sound or movement, from a safe distance.

Ultimately, the GC320 is what you make of it. If you choose to buy it, you will get a product that will support you in whatever you see fit to do with it.

Final thoughts

In this review, we have taken a look at the Key Features of the GC320. We have seen how the device operates, and what its capabilities are. The thing that makes the GC320 stand out is its flexibility and responsiveness. It gives the hunter more control over every aspect of its operation than competing systems.

There are a few problems with the device as well, but we feel that the benefits more than make up for them. In the end, the choice is up to you. We hope that this review has helped you make a decision as to whether the ICOtec GC320 is the right fit for your particular needs!

ICOtec GC500 Review

Extreme Value – ICOtec GC500 Review

ICOtec GC500 Review

I first got my hands on the ICOtec GC500 game call about a month ago. Like I usually am with budget products, I was more than a little skeptical about what the GC500 could offer me. To be honest, I wasn’t sure at first if I was going to buy this call or not. I was debating between the GC500, which would cost me a little under $150 and another, more expensive call for close to $400. Frankly, I’ve always believed in the saying “you get what you pay for” and I was concerned about the price of the GC500 and what that said about the quality of this call.

I’m happy to report, however, that the GC500 has very pleasantly surprised me and proved me completely wrong. In all honesty, I’m not sure if I could have found a better call in any price range. The GC500 does everything ICOtec claims it can do and more. If you’re like me and you find that you’re skeptical because of the GC500’s price tag, I assure you that, against all of the odds, this call has astounded me with its quality, versatility, range, volume and more. And all in a compact and extremely affordable package.

According to ICOtec, GC500 can store up to 200 programmable calls and includes 24 calls right out of the box. ICOtec has promised that the remote and unit will work together at a distance of up to 300 yards, which impressed me right away. This call touts a powerful 15-watt speaker and an extensive range of the volume setting.

The unit comes with an SD card and 24 call sounds right out of the box. The GC500 also comes equipped with an internal speaker and an audio jack. The screen on the remote control has a backlit feature, and the remote can be attached to the unit for extra portability. Line-of-sight isn’t required for the remote to control the unit. The remote can also be used to activate an electronic decoy at a distance. The audio jack can be used for even greater coverage by allowing you to connect an external speaker.

That may sound like a lot for a game call of this budget, and I thought so too, at first. But much to my surprise, the GC500 lives up to all of its promises and more. The following are some of my impressions using this game call for the past month or so.

Key Features/Pros

Comes with 24 sounds right out of the box, with 200 more sounds available on ICOtec’s website

When I originally read that the GC500 comes with only 24 sounds, I was a little disappointed. “That isn’t a lot” is, basically, what went through my mind, and I’m sure it’s what many of you are also thinking. But as it turns out, ICOtec offers a library of up to 200 sounds on their website, for absolutely no charge. I’ve found that all of them are very high-quality. And of course, with up to 200 of them stored on my GC500, I’m basically covered for every occasion.

Speaker loudness and range are perfect for almost any situation

One of the things that worried me the most when I originally debated whether or not to buy the GC500 was that the volume range spanned from only 1 to 7. What worried me was that it basically wouldn’t be enough. Thankfully, the volume of the GC500’s speaker turned out to be absolutely perfect. I’ve personally found that 3 works perfectly well for my closer calls. If I really have to project the sound far away or into wide open terrain, I’ve found that 5 or 6 is perfect.

I’ve confirmed that the unit and remote can communicate with one another up to 200 yards apart

Both the unit and the remote control come with an antenna. But what I’ve found is that there’s basically no need for me to even pull the antenna up on the remote. With only the unit’s antenna up, I can confirm that the remote works at a distance of up to 200 yards. I haven’t had the opportunity yet to try and see if it works past that. However, even 200 yards is very impressive. According to ICOtec, the remote and the unit will work with one another up to 300 yards apart, but I simply haven’t had the chance to test that yet.

Lightweight and comfortable to handle

One more thing I’m happy about is how compact and lightweight the GC500 is. I have zero trouble carrying or handling it. It’s very comfortable to handle, and its compact size means that you shouldn’t have any problems packing it up for trips or if you’re moving to a new house.

Ergonomic remote, easy to use and read the screen at night

I find the remote is very comfortable to handle and very ergonomic. It’s a piece of cake to use, and you can easily feel the buttons out at night. The screen is very easy to read during the day. At night, you can use the backlit function to make the screen incredibly readable.

Top-notch build quality and design

Don’t let looks or the price tag fool you; ICOtec designed the GC500 with great build quality in mind. Both the unit itself and the remote appear to be very durable, and I’m sure both can effortlessly survive a solid amount of wear and tear; wear and tear a game call is bound to accumulate over the course of many hunting trips.

Aside from build quality and sturdiness of the unit, I love the GC500’s many extra design features, like allowing me to attach the remote to the unit. That will be a welcome addition for those of you who are prone to losing small things. I’m sure ICOtec knows that convenience is one of the biggest selling points for products and services nowadays. They seem to design their products with this in mind.

Extensive library of high-quality sounds

What astonishes me is the quality of the sounds ICOtec offers in their extensive library. Not only do they get the job done, but I’ve also found that they often work better than the sounds of most other calls I’ve used, even the more expensive ones. The sounds that come in ICOtec’s extensive library are in a .ico format, but the GC500 will play any .mp3 or .wav file you have.

Designed with convenience in mind

Like I said earlier, ICOtec seems to have designed the GC500 with convenience in mind. Everything, from being able to activate electronic decoys with your remote to automatically cycling through sounds in a set, only serves to make the mundane part of your hunt more streamlined. Navigating through your call sounds couldn’t be easier. You can also save up to six of them as favorites for quick and easy access.

The sound library is incredibly easy to customize and arrange in whichever order you like

One of my favorite things about using the GC500 is the ease with which I can customize and arrange the unit’s sound library. The GC500 marks all of your sounds 001 to 200. By adjusting those three digits, you can easily arrange your sounds whichever way you please. I personally like to order my sounds from most to least used. For me, that means howls first, distresses second, etc. While I haven’t felt the need personally, you can also load your own custom sounds in .mp3 and .wav format, which I’m sure some of you will want to.

Great battery life

The GC500 will take four AA batteries. The remote takes one 9-volt battery. I can’t say a lot here other than that the battery life is very robust. I’m very satisfied with how long both the unit and the remote tend to last me. I’ve personally let calls play on the GC500 from 7 in the morning until dark, and it hasn’t died out on me yet. As with any device that’s important to you, I’d recommend using batteries you trust with this. And carrying spares!

Extremely affordable and feature-rich for the price range it’s in

I’ve found that, in life, I can rely on the “you get what you pay for” mentality a little too much. Don’t get me wrong. More often than not, you do indeed get what you pay for. But sometimes, you just have to take a risk with your purchase. And sometimes, that risk pays off in a big way. In this case, I feel like I’ve gotten more than what I paid for with the GC500.

The SD bundled with the unit has to be replaced if you would like to download and use the extended library

Luckily for me, I already had a spare SD card on standby. It may be worth purchasing one before you go out and buy the GC500. A good hunter will need the extended library of sounds, and for that, you’ll need a new card. I use an 8 GB standard SD card, and I’ve had no issues so far.

Should You The ICOtec GC500?

When I first got my hands on the ICOtec GC500 game call about a month ago, I was very skeptical about what it could offer me with its price tag as is. I was debating whether to buy the GC500 or another call for close to $400. I’ve always followed the mentality of “you get what you pay for.” Earlier experiences have left me convinced that a product this much cheaper than its competition couldn’t possibly be as good. Never mind actually better.

Thankfully, the GC500 proved me wrong in almost every way possible. If you’re like me and you’re similarly skeptical of cheaper products, trust me. In this case, you shouldn’t read a book by its cover. The GC500 saved me from buying a potentially inferior product, one that was hundreds of dollars more expensive.

Simply put, the ICOtec GC500 has astonished me with the value it has. I can’t think of too many occasions in my life where an affordable, “budget” product like this one has left me as satisfied as the GC500 has. For a little under $150, I got most of the features a $400 call would have offered me and then some extras. I can honestly say that my hunting experiences have been improved by miles since I began using the GC500.

I wholeheartedly recommend it to any hunter out there, whether you’re on a budget or not. The GC500 is one of those rare products that can easily beat out its more pricey competition. If you’re in the market for versatility, range and volume and a call that works at a considerable distance, the ICOtec GC500 will do the job and then some.

ICOtec GC300 Review

The Best Affordable Electronic Call – ICOtec GC300 Review

Here Goes My ICOtec GC300 Review!

There are a lot of things you should bring with you every time you go on a hunting trip. You shouldn’t forget to bring the weapons first of all, as hunting is tricky without them. Ok, I know, that is too obvious. But, seriously now, you have to bring your weapons, scopes, stealthy cameras, and the basic toolkit.

However, there is one more hunting tool that I always bring with me whenever I go hunting – the game call. Unlike most other gizmos many bring along, this will do a lot to help you have a successful hunt.

Not only will the game call make your hunting a lot easier, but it will also make it significantly safer. Most of the game calls are incredibly simple to use and are very portable. This time around, I got my hands on one of the most affordable game calls around. So, stick around for the ICOtec GC300 review.

Using any bit of gear on your hunting trip can make a huge difference. Let’s be honest here, hunting can be incredibly stressful, especially if you are hunting for food. Using the game call will not only help you get more animals out in the open, but it will also actually help you lure the exact animal you are hunting that day. However, if you go hunting without a proper game call, you might end up coming home empty-handed. In fact, you might not even get to see the animal you went out to hunt.

However, buying an electronic call is nowhere as simple as it seems to be. There are multiple things you have to consider before you purchase one. What you have to know is it powerful enough, are the sounds good, can it take harsh environments, and many other factors you have to check to be able to make an informed decision regarding the purchase.

ICOtec GC300 – Call of the Wild Electronic Game Call

Now, when it comes to the ICOtec GC300, I have to say that it is one of the top picks for newcomers. If you are either new to hunting, or to using electronic calls, this is an excellent starting point. In fact, I got my own for less than 80 dollars on Amazon.

I have to say, just from that, I didn’t expect a lot from it, so, I was in for a surprise during the testing. It is actually a great game call by ICOtec and works precisely as I would want it to. Upon opening the box, the first thing that caught my eye was how compact it was. The entire product fits in the box the size of 8 x 5 x 4 inches, and it only weighs in at around a pound and a half. That means that carrying this call around is incredibly easy. In fact, you can fit it in any backpack you have, and even some larger jacket pockets.

Key Features

As with pretty much any tech you buy these days, the features are what you want to look for. Knowing what your new toy brings to the table is crucial for making the right decision. Now, we know, most people would think that there isn’t much to these devices, but they would be wrong. So, let’s take a couple of moments and go through the key features of this game call.

The Speaker

The very first thing you simply have to talk about when it comes to game calls are the speakers. In fact, they are the single most crucial part of this device. If your speakers are not powerful enough, or if they don’t give clear enough of a sound, your trap will fail.

Another great thing about ICOtec GC300 – it sports a 15-watt speaker that can deliver up to 120 decibels of sound. I really wouldn’t recommend exposing yourself to that volume from short distances. Overall, this device boasts one really powerful speaker.

Now, I have to admit, I didn’t test the limits of the range of the speaker. However, I did test the range of the remote from a bit over 300 yards to see if it would work. Of course, the remote did its job. But, more importantly, I was able to hear the crow distress sound clearly from 300 yards. Well, if I can hear this call from a distance of 300 yards, and my hearing is far from perfect, you can bet the animals you are hunting can probably hear it from a mile away.

If you believe you need more power than what this call offers, you can simply add it. There is a speaker jack you can use to add more volume to your call. Simply connect a speaker of your choice and turn the game call on with the remote control. But, honestly, I don’t think there is any need to do so. The speaker is fairly powerful.

However, there are people who are not happy with the sound quality when they set the volume really high. I have to admit, I can see why that is. When I set the volume to the maximum setting, the sound can get a bit “electrical.” So, I can understand if anyone wants to use an additional speaker.

The Design

A lot of people will try to convince you that design is irrelevant. That animals don’t care what the call looks like. To be completely fair, they would be right, to a point. But, then again, they would be very wrong as well. Namely, it is true that animals usually won’t even get to see the call. However, if they do, you usually want it to look inconspicuous.

Some animals are actually capable of recognizing hunting gear and might run away when they see it. For that reason, some electronic calls use camo details or different tricks. However, GC300 doesn’t. To be perfectly honest, I didn’t quite like that at first. However, after I took this call to a hunting trip, I had to change my mind. Namely, the Icotec GC300 has a different way to remain hard to notice – its size. Remember, this model is very small. It is only 8 inches long, and the front side of it is no bigger than my fist. Once I set this device in the relatively tall grass, it was, for all intents and purposes, invisible.

The Sounds

Before I set out to do an ICOtec GC300 review, I took a look online to see what other reviews look like. There is one thing that connects them all – there is a lot of emphasis on the actual calls. Of course, it makes sense. After all, that is what you are buying this device for.

The first thing I should mention is that there is a limited number of calls you can use with this device. So, before we go into detail, I will just quickly list the sounds out.

ICOtec GC300 Distress Calls:

Jack Rabbit Distress

Baby Crow Distress

Gray Fox Distress

Cottontail Distress

Woodpecker Distress

Fawn Distress

Coyote Pup Distress

Other Calls:

Coyote Yip and Howl

Coyote Male

Coyote Female

Now, these are all the sounds that you get with this device. If you let it run by itself, it will play for about half a minute before going quiet for another 20 seconds. Well, that is about it. That means that there is no way for you to really “customize” the call. However, there is an ongoing debate between my friend and I, whether or not this indeed is a bad thing. Namely, you don’t really need any other sounds for a successful hunt. What matters more than the quantity of these calls is the quality.

These recordings are top-notch. In fact, they are all actually licensed by Wildlife Technologies, one of the world leaders when it comes to bioacoustics. In fact, they are so famous that movie giants like Disney and Warner Brothers use their recordings. As long as you are hunting in North America, these sounds will be more than enough. They essentially cover the sounds that will lure pretty much any game you are hunting. Now, if you plan to travel around, you might want to find a call with a broader repertoire.

Dual Calls

Now, this is a feature I love. As we all know, using a call is not 100% effective. Some animals can recognize that it is artificial and stay away. One of the reasons for that is the fact that, in the wild, it is very rare to hear isolated sounds. Not to mention that a single call doesn’t give a lot of information to the animal you are hunting. So, ICOtec decided to up their game and allow us to play two simultaneous calls.

So, even though there are only 12 different sounds in this machine, you can get a lot of solid combinations in. The ones I found the most effective for coyote hunting are a jackrabbit distress call with the coyote male. In fact, it got me three coyotes on the first day out. However, the results may vary for each person. I would also recommend not using the automatic loop indefinitely. The pauses feel too regular, and the animals can feel that. Instead, just pause it for a minute every couple of loops.

Unfortunately, I did notice that playing certain combinations can lead to some audio issues due to weird overlapping. Especially with the cottontail distress call.

The Remote Control

I have to say, the remote is actually amazing. It can actually work from 300 yards away. Upon testing, it didn’t fail me a single time. It is also incredibly intuitive. Namely, since the device only comes with 12 buttons, the remote essentially only needs about 15. Playing a certain call is as simple as pressing the button that has the name of that call on it. Also, if you want to play two calls at the same time, just press two buttons.

Final Thoughts

In the end, this ICOtec GC300 review is not here to tell you what to do. You will have to make that decision on your own. However, I am more than willing to recommend this electronic call to any a hunter that asks me about it. It is cheap, efficient, durable and lightweight. So, in essence, it is everything you need it to be.
